OPPORTUNITIES FOR CANADIAN SCHOOLS:
Successful School Sepak Takraw Leagues have been springing up across the country. Why not start an Inter-school Sepak Takraw League in your area or School District? It seems that the best time to plan on running a league and playing games against other schools is around mid-March to the end of May, so about 2 - 2 1/2 months, between basketball and track (whatever that time frame translates to be for you).

From the left menu bar, select "Schools that have Sepak Takraw", then click on your province and you can view a list of schools by city that play Sepak Takraw at one level or another. The list is not at all complete by any means, but it's a start. This will help you network to set up a league or even just a fun tournament with other schools near you. Each year there is a national tournament with a junior (18 & under) division in which your students could compete in. So far players/teams from BC, AB, SK, MB & ON have competed at the nationals in the Jr. division. Why not get your school's KEEN KICKERS ready for the next Canadian Open?!

SEPAK TAKRAW SASKATCHEWAN INC. (STAS) IS NOW ACCEPTING 2010 GRANT APPLICATIONS:

Congratulations to the following Member Schools for receiving the M.A.P., Northern, or Aboriginal Initiatives Grant of $250 or more in 2009 to assist them in developing Sepak Takraw: Coronation Park, Albert, Judge Bryant, Thomson, Kitchener and Centennial Elementary Schools, as well as Western Christian College High School, all in Regina; Howard Coad School and City Park Collegiate, both in Saskatoon; Peepeekisis First Nation; Rosthern High School; and Laird School. STAS is now planning to help organize a Sepak Takraw Game demonstration by some of the current provincial team players, combined with a school tournament for members in the Saskatoon and Regina areas.

CANADA DAY PROVINCIAL SEPAK TAKRAW CHAMPIONSHIPS, JULY 1, 2010:
Hosted directly in front of the Legislative Building, next to Albert St.
10 am – 5 pm: FREE for members … but must be a member to participate (membership is just $30/year/person).
Competitive & Rec. Divisions, all ages: … anyone can play this game; even rookies will “get their kicks!”
Half-time Break Dance Comp.:1 pm, $20 registr.

"KICKERS ROCK!" FEST (National/International Sepak Takraw Championships & Freestyle Footbag Competition), REGINA, SK, JULY 9 - 11, 2010:

This year, what has traditionally been called the "Canadian Open Sepak Takraw Championships" will be much more than just a Sepak Takraw Tournament. It will be a full-blown Festival! Besides both Regu (3-on-3) and Doubles Sepak Takraw tournament matches, there will also be:
Footbag Contests:
- "90-second Routine to Music" Contest;
- "Sick Trick" Contest;
Face Painting for the kids;
Hip Hop, Rap, Break Dancing to close each night;
Display and Merchandise Booths.

Sepak Takraw Events will have the following Divisions & Prizes:
- Junior Men's Division (18 & under), Medals, 1'st place Trophy, Sponsors' Prizes
- Open Age Women Division, Medals, 1'st place Trophy, Sponsors' Prizes
- Senior Men Division (19 & over), Medals, 1'st place Trophy, Sponsors' Prizes, Cash Prize
(cash prize comes from 1/2 of registration fee, i.e. will be CDN $900 if 10 teams)

Footbag Events will have the following Divisions & Prizes:
- Junior Men's Division (18 & under), Medals, Prize Money (half of registration total, winner take all);
- Open Age Women Division, Medals, Prize Money (half of registration total, winner take all);
- Senior Men's Division (19 & over), Medals, Prize Money (half of registration total, winner take all);

In Regina, some meals and local transportation for the days that your are officially involved will be privided by the planning committee. Accommodation will be arranged in a homestay, or if you prefer in Regina's very nice Youth Hostel, just two blocks from the event on one side and just a few blocks from downtown on the other side. Rates are about $25/person/night at the Youth Hostel.

All activities will be taking place under a 180 foot long TENT on the north shore of Wascana Lake, and will run side by side with SUMMER INVASION (Canadian wakeboard competition, motocross bike jumping & skateboard competition, live bands playing nightly), just blocks from the city centre! There will be lots to see and do!
